Outside of Greenwich Park is a statue of General James Wolfe on a small square with a broad view of the former Greenwich Hospital (the Old Royal Naval College, now the University of Greenwich), and then beyond the Thames , A panorama extending from the City to the Dome of the Millennium passing by the towers of Canary Wharf.
The Cutty Sark is a British sailing ship used to trade Chinese tea and New Zealand wool with the United Kingdom but it is severely damaged by a fire on 21 May 2007.
Clippers were sailboats of modest size but very fast (speed more than 9 knots) and maneuverable, built in the middle of the nineteenth century. It is in fact the latest generation of merchant sailboats that have been designed, equipped with resistant metal structures and benefiting from all the technological evolutions of the time. When they were not used for piracy, their low tonnage was destined for the transport of expensive commodities, such as spices or tea. Tea supply was a major challenge and was the subject of an annual competition for which would bring London's newly harvested tea to China first.
The Old Royal Naval College is the centerpiece of the architecture of Maritime Greenwich, a World Heritage Site in Greenwich, London, described by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as of "outstanding universal value". The buildings were first constructed to serve as a royal hospital for sailors in Greenwich, now known as the Greenwich Hospital, which was designed by Christopher Wren and built between 1696 and 1712. The hospital closed in 1869 Between 1873 and 1998 he became the Royal Maritime College of Greenwich.
